Overview
Years
of concerted efforts by the two sponsors, Urban Rail Transport
Professional Committee of CCTA and China International Engineering
Consulting Corporation, have upgraded the biennial METRO CHINA to be
China’s most professional, influential and largest international
exhibition for the urban rail transit industry. The show has proved
to be a platform for the exhibitors from around the world to best
display their state-of-the-art technology and equipment, improve
their corporate image, understand the needs of China’s urban rail
transit, seek business partners, tap market potentials and conduct
exchanges and cooperation in the world’s most populous nation with
the fastest-growing economy.
METRO
CHINA 2007, held in Shanghai, was home to 228 exhibitors from 23
countries and regions, including Canada, China, France, Germany,
Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, UK and USA. Highlighting
the show were such participants of the metro industry’s giants as
ABB, Alcatel, Alstom, Bombardier, China North (CNR), China Railway
Tunnel, China South (CSR), Knorr-Bremse, Mitsubishi, Parsons
Brinckerhoff, Shanghai Electric Group and Siemens. The trade
visitors came from 24 countries and regions.
METRO
CHINA 2009, recently approved the Ministry of Commerce, P. R. China
and China Communications and Transportation Association, will be
held at China International Exhibition Center, Beijing, planning to
cover a floor space of 14,000 sqm. Beijing’s obvious advantages as
the nation’s capital, together with a stronger team of sponsors,
co-sponsors and organizers, will make METRO CHINA 2009 a greater
success.
The
Urban Rail Transport Professional Committee, one of the 14
committees of CCTA, the national voice for the transportation and
logistics industry that is administered by the National Development
and Reform Commission, is engaged in the research, consultancy and
planning for China’s urban rail transit development. The Committee
enjoys an authoritative position in the nation’s urban rail
transport industry with its 76 members involved in the management,
investment, construction, operation, exploration, design, research
or manufacture of metro projects or products.
China
International Engineering Consulting Corporation (CIECC) is the
largest multi-disciplinary engineering consulting organization in
China, playing an important consulting role to the central
government in its decision-making and implementation of major
national construction projects. Since its establishment in 1982,
CIECC has provided consulting services in drawing up industrial and
regional development planning, conducting research on a wide variety
of macro-economic subjects, and undertaking appraisal for
significant, far-reaching and world-famous projects such as, to name
a few, South-to-North Water Diversion, prevention and mitigation of
geological disasters in the Three Gorges reservoir area,
Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway, Shanghai-Hangzhou Maglev
Railway, construction of Olympic venues, National Museum and the new
generation of carrier rocket.
China
Academy of Railway Sciences (CARS) is a comprehensive research
institution with multiple disciplines and specialties under the
Ministry of Railways, P. R. China, specializing in prospective
scientific research, development and testing on key projects and
equipment. CARS will become a certification body for urban rail
transit equipment in the near future. CARS is also the organizer of
MODERN RAILWAYS, a well-established trade show for the railway
industry, that has been staged in Beijing and Shanghai for eight
times since 1992.

Market Information
China
has increased its investment infrastructure construction to
help expand domestic demands and maintain stable economic growth
amid the worldwide financial crisis. Currently, 25 cities across the
nation are preparing to construct metro lines. Between 2006 and
2010, some 5,000 km of metro lines are planned to be constructed,
with 800 billion yuan (about 89 billion euros) invested and 2,000 km
of subways and urban rails facilitated to go into operation in
China’s major cities, upgrading China to be one of
forerunners in urban rail transit.
The
year 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of China’s first metro line in
Beijing and also the 10th anniversary of the localization of the
country’s urban rail equipment. The Chinese capital is committed to
accelerating metro construction by completing 100 km every two years
and putting at least one line in operation every year. In 2009, six
new lines will break ground, increasing the number of lines under
construction to 13. By 2010, Beijing will have 300 km of lines in
operation, spending 90 billion yuan.
